If you’ve been putting off family photos because the idea of getting everyone ready feels stressful… mini sessions may honestly be the perfect fit.
As a Megan James photographer (and a mom myself), I know most families are worried about the same things:
Will the kids cooperate?
Will Dad hate it?
Will it feel chaotic and overwhelming?
And honestly… that’s exactly why I love shorter beach sessions.
They’re simple, relaxed, and usually way more fun for everyone involved.
So, What Is a Mini Session?
Mini sessions are shorter photography sessions designed to keep things easy and low stress while still giving you beautiful images of your family together.
At Megan James Photography, most families book:
-10 minute sessions
-15 minute sessions
-20 minute sessions
And truthfully? That’s usually PLENTY of time for gorgeous beach photos.
Especially with little kids
Kids Usually Do Better With Shorter Sessions
This is probably the biggest reason families end up loving minis so much.
Most little ones don’t want to smile at a camera for an hour straight — especially while on vacation. Shorter sessions help keep everyone happy before kids start getting tired, overstimulated, or completely over it 😂
Instead of forcing stiff poses, we focus on things that feel natural:
-cuddling
-walking together
-playing with your kids
-laughing
-quick posed shots mixed with candid moments
The goal is always real connection and genuine smiles — not perfect poses.
And honestly, some of the “in-between” moments end up being everyone’s favorite photos anyway. 🤍
They Fit Easily Into Vacation Schedules
One of the biggest reasons families book mini sessions in Panama City Beach is because they don’t want photos taking over their whole evening.
Mini sessions are quick and easy.
You can head out for sunset photos, let the kids play in the sand for a little bit, and still make dinner reservations after
It doesn’t have to feel like this huge production to get beautiful memories.
Mini Sessions Are Also More Affordable
Not every family wants or needs a full hour session — and that’s totally okay.
Mini sessions are perfect if you:
want updated family photos
are visiting on vacation
have younger kids with shorter attention spans
want maternity or couples photos
are celebrating an anniversary trip
just want sweet beach memories without overcomplicating it
Sometimes simple really is better.
Are Mini Sessions Actually Enough Time?
Most of the time — yes!
During your session, I guide you the entire time so things move naturally and quickly. Even in a short session, we can usually capture:
-full family photos
-sibling photos
-individual kid photos
-mom & dad together
-candid moments
-walking shots by the water
That being said, if you have a really large group or extended family, I usually recommend booking a longer session so we don’t feel rushed trying to fit in all the combinations.
My Favorite Locations for Mini Sessions
Most of my beach sessions take place at:
St. Andrews State Park
Public beach accesses 52 in Panama City Beach
I love locations that are easy for families, beautiful at sunset, and not overly crowded.

Final Thoughts:
Family photos do not have to be stressful to be beautiful.
Some of my favorite galleries have come from quick little 10–15 minute sessions where families simply relaxed, played together, and enjoyed being on the beach together.
Those moments usually end up meaning the most anyway ✨
So if you’ve been debating booking photos during your trip to Panama City Beach, mini sessions are honestly such an easy way to capture this season of life without making your whole vacation revolve around photos 🤍
