One of the most common questions I get is:
“What time should we book our session?”
And honestly… it makes a huge difference in how your photos turn out.

Lighting is everything when it comes to beach photos, so I wanted to break it down in a simple way so you know exactly what to expect.

Golden Hour (my personal favorite)
Golden hour is hands down the most popular time for family beach photo sessions in PCB. If you’ve ever seen those soft, glowy beach photos and thought “I want THAT” — that’s golden hour.

If you can make golden hour work, I always recommend it!

This is the hour leading up to sunset, and the light is just so pretty. It’s softer, more flattering, and gives that dreamy, light & airy look that I love.
This is when I shoot most of my sessions, especially during the busy season.
If you’re unsure what to choose — this is always my recommendation 🤍

Midday Sessions
I totally get that sunset doesn’t always work, especially with little ones or busy vacation schedules.

Midday sessions are still beautiful, they just have a different feel.
The light is brighter and a little harsher, so you may see more shadows and a bit more squinting. The overall look is more “bright beach day” instead of soft and glowy.

Some people actually love this look — it just depends on your style!

What If It’s Cloudy?
This is something I talk clients through all the time — cloudy weather is not a bad thing!
Clouds actually soften the light a lot, which means it makes for a beautiful background -- no harsh shadows, no squinting, and really even skin tones. You won’t get that golden sunset glow, but your photos will still be beautiful and timeless! I actually love a little cloud coverage!

Timing Really Does Matter
Even small shifts in timing can change your entire gallery.
If you like the light and bright feel, I recommend booking towards the beginning of golden hour.
This will give you that beautiful, blue, and airy feel!
If you like the warmer look, book within 15 minutes of sunset. The closer we shoot to sunset, the deeper, warmer tones you'll get.
If you need help choosing the best timing for the look you want, don't hesitate to reach out and ask questions!

So, What Should You Choose?
If you can make sunset work — do it.
It gives you the prettiest light, the most variety, and it’s what most people fall in love with.
But also… the best session time is the one that works for your family.
Your kids being happy and relaxed matters way more than perfect lighting.

Planning Your Session
I typically shoot at:
St. Andrews State Park or a Front Beach Rd access here in Panama City Beach
Both are beautiful, especially at sunset.

Ready to Book?
If you’re planning a trip to Panama City Beach and want photos that feel easy, natural, and actually reflect your family — I’d love to work with you 🤍
